Brian: KX07

Brian Douglas' Journey with the Blatchford KX07

From classroom to gym floor, Brian Douglas is always on the move. Born with bilateral tibial hemimelia, Brian has used prosthetics for most of his life—but it wasn’t until he was fit with the Blatchford KX07 (sold in the UK and Europe as KX06) that he found a knee that fully fit his lifestyle. Now, Brian navigates campus, work, and workouts with the confidence and comfort he’s always wanted.

Adapting to a New Way of Walking

Brian’s path to comfort and mobility has been shaped by resilience. After undergoing bilateral amputations, he learned to walk on prosthetics at a young age. For years, he walked on knees without any hydraulic component, so the transition to the KX07’s hydraulic system was a major change.

“At first, I did not like the knee because I came from walking on knees without a hydraulic component,” Brian shared. “It was disorienting at first, walking with a hydraulic component.” But the adjustment didn’t take long. He quickly began to enjoy the enhanced comfort and stability that comes with the KX07’s polycentric hydraulic system. “I have found the low friction setting on the KX07 to be a very smooth and comfortable walking experience.” He quickly began to enjoy the enhanced stability and smooth walking that comes with the KX07’s unique polycentric design combined with swing-and-stance hydraulic.

Confidence on Campus and Beyond

Brian is a proud college graduate who uses his Blatchford knee to navigate the University of Virginia grounds with confidence and peace of mind. The KX07 supports his busy routine—helping him move easily from the classroom to the gym and back home again.

With plans to begin his master’s degree next, Brian values the flexibility his knee provides. The ability to adjust settings quickly makes it easy to wear different types of shoes, which simplifies his day-to-day life across academic, professional, and personal environments.

Comfort that Keeps Up with His Goals

Outside of school and work, Brian remains active and driven. With hopes of playing standing pickleball on his knees with minimal difficulty, he looks to the KX07 for consistent support. Its smooth hydraulic action and natural feel help reduce strain and allow for more dynamic movement throughout his day.

Whether lifting weights, navigating stairs, or simply getting through a long day, the KX07 provides the adaptability Brian needs to stay confident and mobile.

Inspiring Others

Brian has made it a personal goal to not let his amputation define him, but for him to rather inspire others through it. Brian has made appearances on the Queen Latifah show, CNN, and has been a pillar in his community at UVA. Showing others that you can do anything you set your mind to has been Brian’s mantra, and he has made an impact on so many people and counting!

Redefining What’s Possible

The KX07 didn’t just change how Brian walks—it’s changed how he approaches life. With each step, he continues to build confidence, set goals, and pursue a full and active lifestyle. From higher education to athletic aspirations, Brian is moving forward—powered by technology that matches his ambition.
